Frequently Asked Questions
Does registering my camera give police live access to it?
No. Registering only makes it possible for a verified investigator with an authorized case to send you a request. You decide whether to respond, every time.
Can anyone search for a specific person using StreetCam.ca?
No. Public users cannot search for anyone. Investigators can only search within the bounds of a specific, verified case, and facial-identity recognition is not enabled in this release.
What happens to footage I don't approve for sharing?
It stays exactly where it is โ on your device or your own storage. StreetCam.ca never accesses footage without an approved request.
Are AI 'matches' proof that someone is involved in a crime?
No. AI results are unverified investigative leads for human review only. The platform never labels a match as proof of identity or guilt.
Can I see who has looked at my footage?
Yes. Your access history shows who requested or viewed your footage, the case it was tied to, and when.
Can I stop participating at any time?
Yes. You can pause requests, delete a camera registration, or withdraw consent, subject to any retention obligations for footage already lawfully shared under a completed request.
